Winter Sweater Mugs, Stoneware Hand Building Workshop

The Ceramic Studio Etc 4132 E Grand River Ave, Howell, MI, United States

Get cozy and creative while making a one-of-a-kind winter sweater mug! In this hand-building class, you’ll create a stoneware mug—perfect for hot cocoa, coffee, soup, or chili—using clay slabs (this is not a wheel-throwing class). We’ll use doilies and a variety of textures to add warmth and character, and you’re welcome to bring a sweater to imprint into your clay. Smaller mesh and tightly woven knits work best, and don’t worry—any sweater you wear will wash clean afterward. You can even add buttons or other decorative details for extra charm.

Galentine Clay Envelope Workshop

The Ceramic Studio Etc 4132 E Grand River Ave, Howell, MI, United States

Celebrate Galentine’s Day with a creative night out just for the gals. In this special clay handbuilding workshop, you’ll create a ceramic envelope wall pocket from slab-built clay. This piece is perfect for holding notes, photos, or small keepsakes. You’ll add simple Valentine-inspired details and textures during the workshop, then return at a later date to glaze your finished piece.

One of our creative instructors will guide you through every step of the process and no experience is required. This workshop is relaxed, beginner-friendly, and focused on celebrating friendship through creativity. The workshop is expected to take approximately two hours to complete.

Soup Mug, Stoneware Hand Building Workshop

The Ceramic Studio Etc 4132 E Grand River Ave, Howell, MI, United States

Come make this short, wide mug design, perfect for your favorite hot beverage, soup or chili! This project will use Stoneware clay slabs to hand-build the mug (this is not a wheel throwing class). Stoneware is dishwasher and microwave safe and great for pieces that need to withstand weather too. We’re excited to be offering this higher quality clay choice. You will wet glaze small details on your mug like buttons, and then choose one of our dip glaze colors for the final touch. Your piece will be dried, bisque fired and then dip glazed by studio staff before it's final glaze firing.
We anticipate this workshop will take 90 min to 2 hours and your mug should fit on the form we offer during class, and be no more than 2lbs. The total project cost is $45, your ticket price holds you seat and the balance of the project will be paid for at the class. If you've created with us before and wish to build a larger piece or something different on your own, you may purchase clay by the pound if your piece exceeds the expected amount of clay we use for the mugs.
